Nathaniel is an apprentice magician who was sold to the government by his parents at the age of five to receive training in the art of magic. His new master, Underwood, is a cold, demanding man of average abilities who regularly demeans Nathaniel. As the young boy matures, he secretly pours over the ancient texts in Underwood’s library and advances his skills well beyond his years. At a meeting of magicians he is interrogated by a ruthless, arrogant magician named Simon Lovelace and Nathaniel gets publicly humiliated. He swears revenge on Lovelace and conjures up the five-thousand year old djinni Bartimaeus to help him. Alternate chapters are written in first person by the witty, hilarious, sarcastic, powerful Bartimaeus who cannot believe he has been summoned by a ‘squirt’! Will Nathaniel be able to control the djinni and the wicked Lovelace? A very intriguing, funny, action-packed, magical fantasy!
